My Mission

I’m Kimberly Slape, Associate Professional Counselor at Hope Springs in Monroe, GA. (under the direct supervision of Dr. Sherie Malcom, LPC). My goal is to help people “make meaning out of their mountains”. I provide a unique approach to every child, adolescent, and adult I counsel. My clients learn to change negative thought processes and find positive solutions. I have completed various trainings on physical, sexual, and emotional abuse and neglect. I am currently completing specialization in TF-CBT, therapy specifically geared to children and adolescents dealing with trauma. I also believe animals bring healing power to the therapy room, and as a certified Human Animal Interventions Specialist, I incorporate my two dogs into counseling when appropriate. In addition, I am trained in Listening Prayer and incorporate spiritual matters when asked to do so in counseling. I have led groups and provided educational training on stress reduction, self-esteem building, ADHD, suicide prevention, and therapeutic narrative writing.

My Specialties

My primary client base is women and teen girls. I enjoy working with young ladies and women in confidence and anxiety issues and utilize several methods and interventions with this population.

Animal Assisted Therapy

Animal assisted therapy is a therapeutic intervention tool that incorporates my dogs into the treatment plan for the client. It is used to enhance and complement the benefits of traditional talk therapy. Dogs have a tendency to promote calm and comfort in the counseling setting.

Listening Prayer

Listening prayer is based on the concept of prayer as as two-way communication—we talk, and God talks. The idea of listening prayer is to spend some time talking to the Lord and the rest of the time listening to His response. Sometimes the listening comes first and the prayer second.

Trauma-Focused Cognitive behavioral therapy

TF-CBT is an evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents impacted by trauma and their parents or caregivers. Research shows that TF-CBT successfully resolves a broad array of emotional and behavioral difficulties associated with single, multiple, and complex trauma experiences
